Philadelphia, PA (April 30, 2008) WindStreet Energy, Inc. announced today that the Philadelphia Phillies had entered into an agreement to purchase a block of 20,000,000 kWh of Green-e Certified Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). This was announced along with the start of the Phillies ‘Red Goes Green’ program to help educate fans about renewable energy and conservation. The Phillies have made the largest single purchase of green power among US professional sports teams in the EPA Green Power Partnership (GPP). The Phillies are the first Major League Baseball (MLB) team to join the EPA program and the third largest partner in Philadelphia. At a press conference announcing this and other Phillies initiatives held at Citizens Bank Park were speakers that praised the coordinated efforts of the team. Among them, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Allen Herskowitz, Senior Scientist at the NRDC and executives from MLB. WindStreet Energy’s Chairman, Christopher Kent, released a statement at the Company’s headquarters, that read, in part, ‘As a leader in both national sports and business, the Philadelphia Phillies organization has once again shown the citizens and business community of the Tri-State Area that real leadership is not in the saying, but, in the doing. Today, their demonstrated commitment to becoming ‘greener’ truly makes the Phillies leaders of the environment within baseball. We are aware of no other professional baseball team that has taken this step to ‘green’ their entire electrical usage for their respective stadium.’ The Renewable Energy Credits that the Philadelphia Phillies purchased will be procured at the highest degree of certification attainable, Green-e Certification. This means that an independent third-party certified that the renewable energy meets the Green-e program’s strict consumer protection and environmental standards. WindStreet Energy’s Solutions Mid Atlantic Sales Director, Shawn Jefremow, remarked ‘I was very impressed by the Philadelphia Phillies commitment to be a leader in the environmental movement. I have been a life-long Phillies fan and am extremely pleased to see them emerge as the environmental leader for professional sports.’
